Not all brownfield development sites elicit much media interest, but when British Coal Property began selling off its disused collieries in the 90’s, the media lined up to report on the latest twists and turns in the British Coal story.
The first of the old coal mines to be disposed of was Parkside, which, at the time had been earmarked as the site for a new distribution centre for Morissons supermarket. Once again, Clare Communications was in the thick of the high profile project to publicise the deal, organising the press conference that revealed the plans to the media. The event was so successful that Clare Communications was hired again on a similar brief for Agecroft Colliery.

Building a new supermarket is not just a case of getting a contractor in to construct it, it also involves winning the hearts and minds of the local community through public inquiries.
It was for this hearts and minds element of the project that Sainsbury’s enlisted the help of Clare Communications for a number of supermarket developments, including new stores in Fallowfield, Halifax, Wetherby and Woolton near Liverpool. The Clare Communications team produced brochures, organised press conferences, held public consultation exhibitions and ensured a comprehensive bank of FAQs was available for each scheme.
